Chemical Bonds

A chemical bond is a mutual attraction between the nuclei and valence electrons of different atoms that bond atoms together.

There are three main types of Chemical Bonds,  ionic, covalent and metallic. Each has different characteristics.

Ionic bonds- dissolve in water, have a high melting point, and conducts electricity in water and as a liquid, but not as a solid. Ex.NaCl-sodium chloride

Covalent Bonds-mostly all dissolve but not always, never conducts. Ex.water-H2O

Metallic Bonds- have a shiny appearance, high melting point, always conducts. Ex.Copper
