Desert  Animals

The desert is an awesome place for animals to live like the gila monster.

GilA  Monsters

Gila monsters are carnivores they eat eggs, birds, and mice.  A slow pace is what the Gila Monster has to offer. They are aggressive by nature though and that is why they live in isolation. They don’t have the same level of vision as many other types of Lizards. Many researchers believe that this lack of sight is part of why this Lizard can be so willing to attack. They don’t want to take a risk that something in their environment isn’t safe for them to be around.

Camels are herbirores they eat desert plants.  The Bactrian Camel are very intelligent and they can be domesticated with ease. However, they all have their own personalities so they can be stubborn and even aggressive from time to time. They may spit, kick, or refuse to move. They are social animals and enjoy being in groups.

Armadillos are omnivores they eat plants and insects.  They are nocturnal and they usually live a solitary life. This particular species of Armadillo can’t roll itself up into a ball. It can float across the river though by inflating its body with air. They can also sink to the bottom of water and walk across it. They have the ability to hold their breath under the water for up to 6 minutes.

Throny Devils

Throny devils are carnivores they eat ants.  The Thorny Devil is often seen standing in water but not really drinking it. Experts believe that the design of the body allow it to simply absorb water from all areas of the body. This is a great way for it to store up the water to use later. When it is extremely hot they are able to excrete salt so that they can retain their water.

The  desert

The desert is a hot and dry place for animals to live.  The desert biome is one that is very hot and dry. They are found at the lower latitudes, between the Tropic of Cancer and the Tropic of Capricorn. Light winds occur often which evaporates any type of moisture that is typically going to develop in them. The heat is very dry and that makes it hard for too many types of plants or animals to be able to survive in such biomes. Approximately 20% of the Earth falls into this category.
