China: A Look at it's Social Issues

A class project in Mr. Smith's English 10 at Cardinal Newman HS

Project Overview

Project Proposal

Name:  Trevor Hernando

Period: 1

Nation of your choice:  China -

Rationale:  I choose china because I like all of the temples that they have there. I like learning about the lion dancing that they do.  I also like to see all of the kind of food that they have there like squid and different kinds of fisk that we don't have here.  I like learning about the karate, kung fu and tai chi.

Summary:   I don't know much about it.  I want to learn more about china and how much smog they have.  I also want to learn how they are going to fix it. Some days in china they can't even see in front of them.   China is putting so much smog in to the air that they have to put masks on so they don't have to breath in so much smog in.  Some people say that they can smell the chemicals.

Prediction:  I hope to discover that how they are going to fix the problem that they have with there smog problem. I think that they are going to fix the problem by not burning so many fossil fuel in there building.  I think that all of the cars that they dive each day will let out a lot of smog. They should fix that problem.

Discussion (of the importance of this nation in the global community, i.e., the “so what?”):

New York Times Topics: China

#1 They Say, I Say

Student Name: Trevor Hernando

Period:1

Title of article (in quotation marks):" survey of foreign companies in china finds pollution a crowing problem"

Title of newspaper (underlined or italicized): New York Times

Essay Author:Edward Wong

Date of Publication: Feb 11,2015

Essay main idea/thesis statement:

Quote:  According to the World Health Organization " china is the 16th most polluted cities in the world"

Comment:  I agree that china is the 16th worst pollution because my reading the article say That world health organization comers it. I wondered were the most polluted area is.  beijing people say that they can smell the chemicals in the air. they also have a hole measuring system from 0 to 500,  0 is good and 500 is very unhealthy and hazardous. they have a plan to get rid of the smog but it won't take place until this year.

#2 They Say, I Say

Student Name: Trevor Hernando

Period: 1st

Title of article (in quotation marks): New York Time

Title of newspaper (underlined or italicized): Fines total $26million for polluters in china

Essay Author: Edward Wong

Date of Publication: Dec 31, 2014

Essay main idea/thesis statement:

Quote: Edward Wong said that " companies in china are discharged 25,000 tons of acid into the two waterways the Rutai canal and Gumagan river from January 2012 to February 2013."

Comment:  I think that they are hurting them self for putting all of that acid in to there main water sources. If they had kept putting the acid in side the ocean and there main water sources then they would suffer from not having clean water.  Then the acid would not go away and travel around the world and we would not have any more clean water to drink.  All of the animal would die because there would be no water.  The only clean water would be from the rain and that wouldn't even be clean because it is water from the ocean.  We would have to create a something to clean the water from the acid. That we put in the ocean.
