what was the manhattan project?why did we creat it???

-The American effort to creat an atomic bomb was called the "Manhattan project"

- scientists discovered that German physicists had learned the secret of splitting a uranium atom

-the Nazis might use that energy to produce very powerful bombs.

-Albert Einstein and Enrico Fermi agreed to tell the president about the dangers of atomic technology in the hands of the enemies

-the main nuclear assembly plant was built in Los Alamos, New Mexico and Robert Oppenheimer was in charge of it and he tested the first bomb at Trinity Site

-A Soviet spy named Klaus Fuchs had penetrated the inner circle of scientists

Where did we drop the atomic bombs?and why?!

-We dropped the bombs in Hiroshima and Nagasaki

-The U.S. gave the Japanese a chance to serenader but they refused

-On July 26th at the Potsdam Conference, it was demanded that Japan surrender unconditionally by August 3rd or face "prompt and utter destruction"

-the Japanese did not surrender

-Hiroshima was destroyed by the " Little Boy" a uranium bomb, killing at least 50,000 people immediately

-By the end of the year, 100,000 people were dead from burns and radiation poisoning

-the Japanese still did not surrender, so on August 9th "The Fat Man" plutonium bomb was dropped on Nagasaki with another 50,000 deaths

-Then japan surrendered unconditionally

-Then V-J day was celebrated! Victory in japan!

- Evidently the bombs have saved thee troops from a bloody invasion of japan

what was the effect of the bombs on Japan?

-long term effects: the population was destroyed due to the excruciating heat of the explosions and radiation exposure

-radiation kills the cells and tissue and causes cancer

-people standing to close to the explosions were incinerated

-cause severe burns

Why did the U.S. put Japanese people in internment camps?

- The U.S. put Japanese people in internment camps because they thought that the Japanese might spy on them
