Headteacher's Blog

Happy New Year.
New Year is for many a time of resolutions and great intentions. Many students started this quickly in the New Year as I saw them in the local supermarket packing bags for people as they raised funds towards funding their World Challenge trip.

Making the move from one school to another is always a daunting prospect, however this week the First School swimming gala held in Thomas Alleyne's pool must have gone a long way to calming some of those nerves. For the pupils who took part they already know how it feels to be on school site and the 'big school' hopefully only holds good memories for them after such a fantastic event. Thank you to all the staff who organised the event which was superbly organised, but also the students who acted as life guards, supporters, time keepers scorers and referees.

Next week mock examinations are about to start for our Year 11 students. We wish them well for these examinations. For all year groups you will be receiving reports of the coming days on your son or daughter's progress. If you have any questions relating to this please contact your Head of House and the Head of department of the relevant subjects.

Finally we knew that last year's Year 11 performed well in their GCSEs however this was highlighted recently in the national school performance tables. Within this it showed that students in Year 11 last year performed significantly above the national average both in terms of what they achieved and in terms of how this compared to the progress they had made since their Key Stage 2 examinations. Currently our Year 10 and 11 students are both on track to exceed this achievement. However the next 80 days for Year 11 will be critical: our after school revision classes continue to offer additional support to these students.

Krispy Kreme Doughnuts

On Thursday 29th January Thomas Alleyne’s Senior Prefects are organising a ‘Doughnut Day’. Fifty percent of profits will go to the Salvation Army Burton Corps (Food Bank) and fifty percent will go towards subsidising 6th Form Events. This is very popular with this being the fifth year running the Doughnuts have been sold.

Famous Krispy Kreme Original Glazed Doughnuts will be on sale at break and lunch time around school where students and staff will be able to purchase them. The Doughnuts will be sold at 90p each or £8.50 for a box of a 12, considerably cheaper than retail price!
