Psoriasis is a skin disease that is caused mostly by an overactive immune system. People with Psoriasis have excess levels of an immune protein called cytokines. Some types of psoriasis can be passed down by kin, from generation to generation. 1 out of 3 people report having a relative with the disease. Also, 10% of the general population is believed to have genes that predispose them to developing psoriasis. It can also be caused by environmental sources like stress, skin injuries, and infections.
