Day of the dead

-the day of the dead is celebrated on oct.31st aqnd it ends on nov.2nd

-the people that celebrate this holiday are mostly people of Mexican and Hispanic descent

-the day of the dead is essentially the gathering of family and friernds together to celebrate deasceased loved ones

-they bullied altars for their loved ones that are basically shrines which include a picture of the deaceased loved one aswell as flowers(marigolds) and candles as well as pssesiuons od the deasced at the altar

-they traditionally wear there normal clothes these days of celebration or their "best" clothes

-sometimes kids will be handed sugar skulls as it is a traditional candy for this event

-The Day of the Dead celebrations in Mexico can be traced back to a pre-Columbian past

-Rituals celebrating the deaths of ancestors had been observed by these civilizations perhaps for as long as 2,500–3,000 years.


-Halloween is celebrated on ocotober 31st

-Halloween or more traditionally called all hallows eve and is believed to be a celtic holiday but many argue that it only has purley christain roots

-this holiday is celebrated yearly and is also traced back to the celtic holiday festival

-the people today tthat celebrate this holiday today are of all ages and usally dress up in costumes and go trick or treating (guising)

-the purpose of dressing up was to ward of evil spirits are bad ghouls

-The clothes traditionally worn today are costumes that people would buy or make to wear out and the cotume can be a variety of things

-Children mostly practice the trick or treating and as they get older usally stop though that doesn’t mean that adults don’t dress up in costumes. All sorts of people practice this holiday from big gatherings of families to one person going out on Halloween

comparing /contrasting


   - both are celebrated around the same time and date

  - both are associated with the day

    - both are still practiced today even though both are older traditions and customs

    - both have people gathering together

      - both are celebrations

      - both are regulars practiced each year


  - day of the dead celebrates the dead while Halloween wants the spirits of the dead to be gone

-   Halloween is more of a commercially celebrated  holiday rather then day of the dead where its more culturely celebrated

- the day of the dead is more traditional with its roots while Halloween is not

- for Halloween you dress up in a costumes

- for day of the dead you wear you ordinary clothes
