How to Have the Courage
to Live the Life You Dream

Of the four Wizard of Oz characters, I felt most pity for the lion with no courage. I mean, let's face it, a tin man really doesn't have a heart, and a scare-a-crow really doesn't have a brain, and Dorothy can always find means of transportation to get home. But a lion without courage?! How is he supposed to be "King of the Jungle"? Nevermind that a lion doesn't really live in the jungle, it's just a figure of speech...go with it. At the top of the food chain, in an environment where nothing else preys on it, a lion has no business living it's life running, hiding, weeping, or cowering in fear.

Interestingly enough, most people spend their lives the same way as the cowardly lion: too afraid to live up to their potential, take the bull by the horns (need I say it's an expression), and take the necessary steps to live the life of their dreams.  Instead, people tend to run from their potential, hide in their comfort zones, weep about how everything in their life is going wrong, and cower in the face of "friends" and family that tell them they can't.

Wake up! You're the lion of your environment for goodness sake. What is the worst thing that can happen if you take the first step to achieving the success that will give you the freedom to live the life of your dreams? Will the earth crumble beneath your feet? No. What will happen if you try to write that book and get it published? Will the earth stop spinning on its axis? Huh uh. What about if you go for that opportunity that no one else thinks will pan out? Will the zombie apocalypse take place? Nope. The worst that can happen is that you fail...until you succeed. That is to say, don't give up when you fail. Now you might have expected me to say "if" you fail. But I say when. If your dreams are big enough, you will most definitely have some failures. Fail until you succeed.

You Don't Need a Wizard

The lion eventually overcame his fear. I know, I know, but there was a Wizard. The Wizard was a "fake, a phony". So the lion had courage all along. He just didn't believe he did. Likewise, people have the potential all along, they just don't believe in themselves, or in the opportunities that present themselves. So what can you do to manifest the courage within; to live up to your potential; to be the king of your jungle?

1. Desire to change...ferociously

Often, we have to reach a point in our lives where we are so desperate that it becomes the driving force for us to finally change our lives. You do not have to wait for that time in your life. You can simply decide that living the life of your dreams is that important to you, that you need it as bad as you need to breathe.

2. Develop yourself...ferociously

Personal development is a must. Become diligent about learning and growing in the areas of becoming more confident, time management, leadership, connecting to people, consistency, and in understanding your business. Invest a minimum of 10 minutes per day to your personal development. Develop your courage, you will need it.

3. Believe in yourself...ferociously

"Your thoughts become words, your words become actions, and your actions become habits, your habits become your character, your character becomes your destiny." (Lao Tzu) What you believe becomes your reality. You are the lion of your environment. You are king of your jungle. Why believe anything otherwise? "Whether you think you can or you think you can, you're right". (Henry Ford)

4. Be ready to pounce on opportunity...ferociously

Actively seek out opportunities that will help you achieve your goals and live the life you desire. When you find opportunity, pounce! Don't let it pass you by. Do not sit back and wait for them to come to you or for the stars to align. It is never the perfect time for you to start. Start anyway.

5. Protect your dreams....ferociously

Most people do not have the courage to do what it takes to live the life of their dreams. So they are not comfortable with people that are going after their dreams. Like crabs in a barrel, they will try to pull you back down as you try to get out. On your journey to living the life of your dreams, help as many other cowardly lions find their courage as you can. But be prepared to stand up to and leave the ones behind that are hell bent on living the life of a cowardly lion, and telling you that you must do the same. Surround yourself with other brave lions, and learn from the wise ones.

5. Act...ferociously

There is a Japanese proverb that says a vision without action is a daydream, action without vision is a nightmare. Find out what it takes to live the life of your dreams and make it your business to take daily action. Mindset (attitude) + small, smart choices (actions) + consistent activity (habits) = SUCCESS.

Now go forth and be the king of your jungle that you were meant to be!
