A Sad Wave
Meredith Miller

As the sun begins to set
It's my time to crash onto the shore
I wait, patiently
For the right moment to wash it all away.

People, so many people.
On the beach, all day
Laughing, playing, writing in the sand
And then quickly,
I take it all away.

I don't mean too
but it's my job to erase the memories of the day.

I hope people understand why I do what I do
I have to wash away the memories so new ones can be made
They have fresh, new places to play.

The moon rises right above me
Illuminating the clean beach
Forcing me into a long, sad night
Because I can't watch the people on the shore.

Once the sun begins to rise
More memories will be made
For me to wash away.
