Introduction to Mythology

     What is mythology? Mythology is a group of myths. Myths are ancient sories that teach a moral or lesson and usually explain how something came to be.

     Greek God: Zeus; Zeus is the god of the sky and ruler of all the olympian gods and goddesses. His weapon is a lightning bolt that he hurls at those who displease him. He is married to Hera but is known for his many affairs. He is also known for his harsh punishments to those that lie or disobey him.

     Mythical Creature: Cerberus; Cerberus was a huge and powerful three- headed dog. He was owned by Hades, god of the dead, who used the fearsome hound to guard the entrance to the underworld

     Modern Day Connection? The word amazon in Greek Mythology meant a race of powerful women warriors trained in archery and combat. Today it is a multi-billion dollar company. The Amazon River is also named after these women.
