The Great Depression:
On October 24, 1929, the stock market bubble finally burst, as investors began dumping shares en masse.Depression-era hardships had fueled the rise of extremist political movements in various European countries, most notably that of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime in Germany. When the Great Depression began, the United States was the only industrialized country in the world without some form of unemployment insurance or social security. In 1935, Congress passed the Social Security Act, which for the first time provided Americans with unemployment, disability and pensions for old age.
Colleges in the 1930s:
During the Depression of the 1930s, community colleges began offering job-training programs as a way of easing widespread unemployment. This collection features ephemera largely produced and disseminated by student- led political organization in the 1930s and the early 1940s, in the years leading up to and including WWII. The shift came in the 1930s, as more of them stayed in school, although at only half the rate of Jewish girls. Children were greatly affected during the Great Depression, even if they didn’t understand what was happening. Back then girls clothes were all wore dresses and boys wore allover. Their books weren't not free and there parents had to buy them. Some had to drop out of school to take job to help support family. The book back then coasted $35. Their mascot was Quaker.
In 1930 a gallon of gas was 10 cents. In 1930s the average of a house was $7,145.00. In 1930 the average income per year was $1,970.00 and by 1939 was $1,730.00. US 1930 Unemployment figures show 8.7% of the population are unemployed.
Stan's Apology letter:
Dear Mr. Stroheim,
I want to apology about what i have done opening my big mouth and then swapping the dirt in your feet. I didn't mean to do that. I feel bad of what i did i didn't mean to do this because it wasn't my responsible about what the other guy caused.
You should hire me back because i get to work on time and I do my work good. I do my work the way you ask and would like. I would like to help other that are there.
Next, time i won't do nothing that doesn't have to do with me and open my big mouth and for other people. I should start to worrier about my stuff and let people do their things.
The ticket cost now $75.25 to go watch the wicked Boardway Show. Wicked is the untold story of the Witches of Oz. Long before Dorothy drops in, two other girls meet in the land of Oz. One, born with emerald-green skin, is smart, fiery and misunderstood. The other is beautiful, ambitious and very popular. Wicked tells the story of their remarkable odyssey, how these two unlikely friends grow to become the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good.
My favorite part of the book was when Stanley told Eugene that he was going to leave to the Army. So Eugene childhood was going to be over and that meant that he is going to work and support the family like Stanley did. Since Stanley is leaving the family Eugene is going to leave this little kid things and get ready to take Stanley place to start working and help out more at home.
