Just Flu?

Have you ever thought that your flu might actually be more than just flu? The symptoms that you have could lead to a diagnostic far worst. Let us explore the worse scenario, HIV. The human immunodeficiency virus is transmitted by have unprotected sex or through injected drugs.

People who have HIV are placed in two different categories, the first one being the people who do show signs of this illness. Often, they’ll describe it as the worst flu ever. In fact, all of the following symptoms could be associated with flu. They’re also known as acute retroviral symptoms (ARS).

  • Fever
  • Swollen gland
  • Sore throat
  • Redness
  • Fatigue
  • Muscle or joint aches pain
  • Headaches

Although is very important to keep in mind that all of the above could be associated with another illness. Also some people who have HIV don’t show any symptoms, for up to 10 years. This is the reason why it’s important to go get tested if you do have doubts.

If you do have HIV, there are 3 stages that you need to know about. The first one is of course de symptoms. The second is the clinical latency and the third is aids.


At this point, the virus is at a high level in your body and is easily transmitted.

Clinical latency

During this phase the virus is developing in your body and replicating. However you experience no symptom, which is known as the asymptomatic HIV infection. During this phase, the virus can be controlled with an antiretroviral therapy.


When you have aids your body is at its weakest level. These are the symptoms that you’ll experience:

  • Rapid weight loss
  • Fever
  • Swelling of the gland
  • Diarrhea
  • Sore of the mouth
  • Pneumonia
