   The MLB is divided into two divisions, the American League and the National League. Missouri is home to two MLB teams, one from each division. The St. Louis Cardinals are part of the National League and the Kansas City Royals are part of the American League. In 1985 the two teams played in the World Series, called “The I-70 Showdown.


The Cardinals have gone to 18 World Series and won 11. Most recently they won the 2011 World Series against the Texas Rangers. Their home field is Busch stadium in St. Louis Missouri. Some of their star players are Chris Carpender, David Freese and Yadier Molina.

Chris Carpenter

    Chris Carpenter has been the Cardinals starting pitcher for the St. Louis Cardinals for nine years. With St. Louis he has pitched 1346 full innings and faced 5520 batters. He has only allowed 1221 hits, which makes him one of the best pitchers in the MLB. He has also had three arm surgeries and is still pitching.

David Freese

David Freese has played multiple positions but is currently playing third base for the Cardinals. He has received multiple awards including the Babe Ruth Award, the 2011 World Series MVP and 2012 All-Star player. He has had 327 hits and 33 of them were homeruns.    

Yadier Molina

Yadier Molina has played multiple positions but is currently playing catcher. He has had 1022 hits in his time with the cardinals. Yadier has won four Gold Glove Awards. He also has two brothers who are also MLB Catchers      


Their mascot is Slugger the lion. They have been to 2 World Series and won 1, in 1985 against the St. Louis Cardinals. Some of their star players are Alex Gordon, Billy Butler and Eric Hosmer. The Royals home field is Kauffman stadium in Kansas City, Missouri.

Alex Gordon

     Alex Gordon has been with the Royals since 2005, he is now their left fielder and leadoff hitter. He played for the University of Nebraska and was the second round pick for the Royals. Alex has won the 2012 Fielding Bible Award and the Rawling Gold Glove Award.  

Billy Butler

   Billy Butler was drafted to the Royals out of high school and is now their designated hitter. He has hit 103 homeruns and hits a .300 batting average. Billy was also named 2012 American League All Star

Eric Hosmer

Royals since Eric Hosmer was also drafted out of high school, he bats and throws lefty and is also their first baseman. He has been with the Royals since 2010. In 2011 he won Player Of The Month!
