Ava's Cool Individualized Learning Plan

Why don't Jehovah's Witnesses celebrate holidays and birthdays?

All About Miss Ava!

Ava is in her first semester of first grade. She is a little on the quiet side so it does take a little extra effort to get her to participate in class activities. But once she gets started, there is no stopping her. Ava loves to draw, color, and read. She has told me that her favorite season is winter and when we have a free time in class, she can often be found drawing beautiful snowy mountain scenes. She has told me that she often wishes to visit these snowy places one day.

Ava comes from a Jehovah’s Witness background so even though she does love winter, she is not allowed to celebrate Christmas. It doesn’t seem to bother her though when the other children talk about the presents they wish to receive from Santa Clause or how they will be spending Christmas Day. She is content with just loving the snow that comes along with the season and being able to discuss with the other children about all the things she will do when it comes. One of her favorite past times during the winter season is to go out and build anything she can imagine out of the snow, including snowmen. She loves to bring in pictures of her creations and show them off to everybody.
