Benedick's Motivations

In "Much Ado About Nothing"  The character Benedick which is a respected, humores lord who goes to Messina with the other soldiers who plan to find love. when they arrive Benedick has a history with Beatrice and he broke her heart and they both cant stand love and they both say bad things to each other in a joking way for example “It is certain I am loved of all ladies, only you excepted. And I would I could find it in my heart that I had not a hard heart, for truly I love none”. Then Beatrice replies with “I had rather hear my dog bark at a crow than a man swear he loves me”.

Character Development

At the start of the movie "Much Ado About Nothing' Benedick and Beatrice hate each other and say that they will never love again. When we get more into the story Benedick starts to have feelings for beatrice and when he wrote her a love poem the feelings became more and formed into love. After Claudio and Hero's wedding benedick was what it looked like jokingly proposing to beatrice and they were both throwing jokes at each other and then Claudio gave Beatrice the love poem Benedick wrote for her and then Hero did the same and gave it to Benedick.

Impact of Plot and Theme

When Claudio ruined Hero's life by saying she supposedly slept with another man before marriage that basically killed her because her father disowned her and the whole city also Beatrice knew that something went wrong or someone was lying so she wanted Claudio to pay because he basically killed her. Beatrice wanted Benedick to kill Claudio because she lost a cousin and even though Claudio and Benedick were close he had to do it because he love Beatrice and do anything to please her.
