52 IN 52

The 52 records that define my love for music

Week 12/ Album 12

Who: The Dead Milkmen "Big Lizard in my Backyard"

When: 1987-88

Why: This was my introduction to Punk Rock, and curse words.

This, along with a couple others coming on this list, was courtesy of Josh McLaughlin. For my early years, he was like a big brother to me. Passing down music to my great friend Dave and I. One of the first tapes of his that I had was a copy of this record. I didn't get punk rock at the time, I just thought what they were doing was funny. I was used to rock like Living Colour and well-produced heavy rock and roll. The Dead Milkmen were fast and funny, so I liked it. Many years went by and this record got lost in all the punk rock I got into, but when I revisited it, its easily a record I can trace alot of my music love back to. Plus, I never really heard curse words in my house, but this record did a great job of introducing them to me!

Where: I've never seen them. They were here for Halloween, but I was gone. Probably wont get a chance like that again.

BITCHIN' CAMERO! BITCHIN' CAMERO!

For probably a couple months straight, Dave and I memorized different parts of this record walking to school in 2nd grade. Bitchin' Camero was at the top of the list. We would even take turns being each guy.

Even all the other songs, we really had no clue what we were listening to. This is a punk rock staple.
