How did several small kingdoms come together to unify the Holy Roman Empire?

Otto I

Was crowned emperor over the Romans in 962. Known as Germanys best saxon king. The first German to be named Emperor of Italy. Otto created a treaty between the emperor and the pope to regulate the relations.

Frederick I

He tried to build a strong German kingdom, wanted become the start of a new Empire. Wanted revenue from Italy, He started the name "Holy Empire". Fredrick wanted to take over northern Italy, the Pope did not agree cause he didnt want Fredrick to join the Papal States with Rome.  The pope defeated Fredrick in 1176, after not being willing to help him.

Slavic People of Central/ Eastern Europe

Slavic people were the original people in central Europe, divided themselves into three groups, the western, southern, and eastern slavs. The western slavs formed the Polish and Bohemain Kingdoms. The Czechs converted the Bohemian and Polish people to Christianity, it also spread to Hungary. The poles, Czechs, and Hungarians all excepted Western Christianity, and joined the Roman Catholic Church. The eastern Slavs were converted to Orthodox Christianity by two Byzantine Missionary brothers.

Development of Russia

Eastern slavs settled in Ukraine and Russia, they then encountered Vikings, the VIkings wanted new trade routes. The Vikings eventually do set up communities in Russia
