1. What is Genetically Modified Organisms ?
Genetically modified organisms are plants or animals that have been genetically engineered with DNA from bacteria, viruses , or other plants and animals. These experimental combinations of genes from different species cannot occur in nature of traditional crossbreeding. Despite bio-tech industry promises, none of the GMO traits currently on the market offer increased yield, drought tolerance , enhanced nutrition or any other benefit.
2.How have humans contributed to this topic ?
Genetically modified food has quietly become second nature in the U.S and it may surprise you just how many foods you are eating that you never knew contained a genetically modified ingredient 60 to 70% of processed food on the United States grocery shelves have genetically modified ingredients.
3.How does your topic (Genetically Modified Organisms ) affect the environment ?
Genetically modified organisms affect the environment in many ways containing , Toxicity ( a huge issue surrounding chemical pesticides and herbicides is the use commonly with GMO may be toxic to non-target organisms.
GMO products could cause allergic reactions. now increased toxicity , decreased nutrition and antibiotic resistance.
Organ damage gastrointestinal & immune system can leave material behind inside us , the toxic insecticide produced by GM corn was found in the blood of pregnant women and their unborn-ed fetuses.
4.How has technology impacted this topic (Genetically Modified Organisms ) ?
The current technology impact plants and animals have been modified to resist pests diseases.
A possible way of boosting China's food security , and lessen the impact of industrialization , which diminishes the availability of agriculture land.
5.Briefly describe the history of your topic , when did it begin ?
In 1944 , Oswald Auery tentatively identified DNA as the true carrier of molecular information , and his findings were confirmed in 1952.
By 2008 , 92% of the soybeans planted in the U.S were GMO varieties.
GMO was ramped from bacterial with thin cell walls- to plants that have thick, tough cell walls . Washington University discovered DNA molecules called a plasmid of plant cells cause tumors.
6.Other interesting facts about your topic ?
Are plants or animals created through the genes splicing techniques of biotechnology. This experimental technology emerges DNA from different species, creating unstable combinations of plants , animals , bacterial and viral genes that cannot occur in nature of in traditional crossbreeding.
