The 9 comma rules
Rule 1: When separating phrases that don't need to be there.
Example: Isabel,my daughter,wants a car.
Rule 2: When linking to independent clauses.
Example: I want to go shopping, but I don't have any money.
Rule 3: When you are addressing someone in particular.
Example: Can we go bowling, mom?
Rule 4: When making a list.
Example: My favorite hobbies are roller skating, ballet, and volleyball.
Rule 5: When you have more than one adjective modifying a noun.
Example: The suspenseful, adventurous book excited me.
Rule 6: After introductory phrases or clauses.
Example: After language arts class, I have to go to reading.
Rule 7: Dates
Example: Today is November 12th, 2014.
Rule 8: The ending of a letter
Example: See you later! -Sincerely, Alex
Rule 9: Geographic Location
Example: I live in Cumming,Georgia!
