Panama-Based Conservationist Working Globally
International conservationist Jacobo Lacs oversees and works with zoos and animal conservations located throughout the Americas from his base of operations in Colon, Panama. He currently directs Zoologico del Istmo, S.A., a Panamanian zoo and aviary situated near the Atlantic coast. In this capacity, he focuses on the conservation and propagation of rare tropical bird species and helping rehabilitate injured animals. Jacobo Lacs also maintains affiliation with several regional institutions working within the same field, including the National Environmental Authority of Panama, which deals with state-related environmental and natural resource protection matters, and the Latin American Association of Zoological Parks and Aquariums.
Jacobo Lacs of Panama also provides advice, especially regarding rare bird conservation, to multiple other organizations, including Dallas World Aquarium (DWA) in Texas and The Peregrine Fund of Idaho. Working with the DWA, he has offered expertise and research support to the organization in exchange for assistance in designing and creating free-flight aviaries at Zoologico del Istmo. Mr. Lacs serves on the board of directors of The Peregrine Fund.
In his down time, Jacobo Lacs enjoys international travel. He also contributes to multiple children’s charities and medical programs in Panama.
