About James D Sterling
With more than four decades of experience in clinical psychology,
Dr. James D. Sterling serves patients at the New York Center for
Psychotherapy as director and psychologist. The well-established
Manhattan practice emphasizes treating the specific needs of clients
seeking family and marital counseling. Dr. James D. Sterling also holds a
lifetime appointment as assistant clinical professor with the Mount
Sinai Medical School’s Department of Psychiatry.
Dr. James Sterling earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology and psychology at the University of California, Berkeley and subsequently pursued master’s and doctoral degrees in psychology at the University of Chicago. He later returned to school to complete a master’s of science degree in business at Columbia University. In addition to his private practice, the clinician held responsibilities as a clinical instructor in the Metropolitan Hospital Department of Psychiatry until 1982, at which time he took a position first as clinical instructior and then for the past 25 years as an assistant clinical professor in the department of psychiatry at Mount Sinai Medical School.
Active in his community, Dr. James Sterling supports the New York Philharmonic Orchestra and has been a lector at St. Thomas More Church for many years and is member of the University Club in NYC.
