Educated at the University at Albany and St. John’s University School of Law, where he spent two years clerking for Devitt & Spellman, James Merlino passed the New York Bar Exam in 1995 and subsequently joined Alio, McDonough & Jennings as an associate attorney. Two years later, he became an associate with Tressler, Soderstrom, Maloney & Priess, a highly respected law firm with offices across the nation.
In 2001, Mr. Merlino began a partnership in his current firm and today represents clients on a wide range of matters in state and federal court. New York County Lawyers Association Honors New Judges

Founded 105 years ago by a group of lawyers as a more democratic alternative to the New York Bar Association, the New York County Lawyers Association (NYCLA) hosts a variety of weekly events, meetings, and workshops for members. An upcoming reception on February 19 will honor newly elected, reelected, appointed, and reappointed New York judges. The NYCLA's Supreme Court Committee will host the event, which is open to NYCLA members by invitation only. Taking place from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the event will be held at the NYCLA headquarters in New York City. The Hon. Fern Fisher, who serves as a Deputy Chief Administrative Judge in New York City courts, will make welcoming remarks, followed by a reception introducing this year's honorees.
