Registered Dietitian Janet Kovler Manages Bariatric Surgery Program
Before beginning her career in dietary health and the treatment of bariatric metabolic diseases, Janet Kovler received a bachelor of science in dietetics and child development from the State University of New York at Oneonta and earned election to the school’s chapter of the Phi Upsilon Omicron national honor society. Subsequently, she attained a master of science in nutrition education from City University of New York Queens College. In addition to her academic credentials, Janet Kovler maintains designation as a Registered Dietitian, Certified Diabetes Educator, and American Heart Association-Certified Cardiovascular Counselor.
Currently, Janet Kovler serves as bariatric surgery program manager for Orange Regional Medical Center. In this role, she directs all operations, policies, and procedures for the hospital-based bariatric surgery program. Responsible for maintaining an active Comprehensive Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence with the Metabolic and Bariatric surgery Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP) in conjunction with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) and the American College of Surgeons (ACS), she implements best practices based upon evidence provided by both organizations and the Joint Commission. She also develops the continuing education curriculum to keep hospital employees informed of the specific needs of patients undergoing bariatric procedures.
Having previously served as CEO/Adminstrator for Catskill Dialysis Center, chief renal dietitian at St. Luke’s Hospital Dialysis Center, and diabetes educator for Horton Medical Center, Janet Kovler belongs to several professional organizations concerned with weight management and metabolic disorders, including the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, and the National Academy of Dietetics.
