My family has helped shaped me into the person I am today.
I grew up in a family oriented environment allowing me to appreciate their contributions in my life. Ever since I was young I had always wanted to become a teacher. My sister and I would play pretend school and I always played the teacher. I would use the chalkboard my parents had bought us and make up classwork and other class activities for my sister to do. My sister and I are three years apart, me being the oldest. Both of my parents worked very hard and I started babysitting at the age of 10. I was constantly watching her, which then made me feel like a mother to her. I would entertain her, feed her, help her with homework, and help her get ready for school or bed. I had a big take in raising my sister and now looking back, I feel that is was that huge responsibility that made me into a caring and generous person that I've become. I enjoy helping others out with whatever the situation maybe. When teaching others or helping them out, I get a feeling of accomplishment! Becoming a teacher is very exciting to me. The fact that I get to help build the foundation of young children is not only an important responsibility, but a rewarding one. Knowing that I can make some type of impact on another human being will give me great satisfaction.
I've worked at an elementary school, Dr. Henry E. Perrine, for the last 6 years. I started off as an afterschool care leader and worked my way to coordinator/manager. I learned so much about myself while working with children and this job has helped me feel secure that being a teacher is for me. Teaching is just not a career to my but one of my many passions. I have 3 aunts who have been teachers for over 20 years and I have seen both spectrums of teaching. Though teachers do more than lecture in classrooms, I began to see that they also spend majority of their time keeping documentations on their students and doing all kinds of assessments. Being a teacher involves more than working with children, but working with other staff member, administration, and parents as well. I cannot wait to get started in the field of teaching and experience the challenges on the way to making a difference.
Another passion of mine is working out. I have been working out for the last 3 years and have lost over 56 pounds. If I am not working or studying, you can catch me training at the gym. I'm into high intensity workouts as well as weight lifting and currently in training for a body competition sometime next year. Training not only relives stress but motivates me to believing in myself. Through training I've learned, that my mind is a powerful tool, whatever I set my mind to, my body will follow. I've learned self discipline, self-worth and most importantly how to take care of my body. With that being said, I also enjoy outdoor activities such as bike riding, hiking, paddled boarding and kayaking. Being out active keeps me positive and allows me to feel the best that I can be.
Another fact about myself is that I am Disney obsessed! When I was a little girl my grandmother would take me to Magic Kingdom every year for my birthday, and when she passed away when I was 8 years old, I kept the tradition alive. I am 24 years old and still spend my birthday at the happiest place on earth with the people who mean the most to me. I am an annual pass holder and tend to go to Disney Parks at least 4 times a year. I own every Disney movie on VHS and DVD. I collect special edition Disney snow globes as well as figurines. My family and friends spoil me with Disney items such as jewelry, tops, shoes, hair pieces etc. Disney World isn't just about being at my happy place, but it reminds me of my grandma, who also enjoyed being their. My obsession is more of reminiscing back on great memories I once shared with my grandmother and hopefully one day do with my own family.
People will describe me as quiet but that's only because I tend to observe my surroundings and the people around me. I am very friendly and enjoy being around others and can start a conversation with just about anything and anyone. I can be reserved but when I feel a connection with people I tend to open up and be my fun, outgoing self. I have a small group of girl friends who have also helped shaped me into the person I am. I use to be very insecure with myself and they taught me that I need to appreciate who I am and to love myself. These women are always their for me no matter what and I am so blessed to be able to not only call them friends, but consider them family as well. There aren't too many people who can say that they have loyal, loving and caring friends like I have.
