Several have asked for a time "after homecoming week" to get support writing PLPs  and/or gathering evidence for your Accreditation standards. Now that the crazy fun is over, I have a few folks booked for Monday and would be happy to add you to the schedule if you'll let me know. Thanks to those who were willing to be creative and work via phone / email last week!

STAR Testing is this week!

Learning Walk Feedback:

It was a GREAT DAY TO BE A JET when the Administrative Team and IP visited 13 JC classrooms for Learning Walks last Tuesday! Below is a copy of the feedback shared with the faculty from Dr. Clayton.

Glows:

  • Learning Targets were visibly posted in 8/13 classrooms visited.
  • Students in 3/13 classes visited referenced the posted learning target when asked what they were learning.
  • 13/13 classroom doors were locked during walk.
  • Students across a variety of classes were engaged in looking for and citing text evidence as well as defending or supporting a position using the evidence found. (ACCRS Literacy Standards)
  • Classes where hands-on learning was occurring had a very high percentage of student engagement along with true understanding of the learning expectations.
  • In all classes where lecture was occurring, there was a connected activity (graphic organizer, anticipation guide, etc.).
  • Students were engaged in a variety of instructional strategies, such as:
    • RAFT / Skit
    • 6 Word Memoirs
    • Graphic Organizers
    • Gallery Walk
    • Anticipation Guide
    • Comic Strip Creation
    • Annotating &Text Evidence

Grows-

  • Questioning:
  • Allowing students wait time after questions are asked
  • Planning and asking higher level questions
  • Equity of Student Response Opportunities (as questions are posed) & Engagement through questioning
    • Strategies to increase engagement might include:
      • the use of equity sticks or an equity app
      • planned dialogue opportunities for students such as turn and talk or think, pair share

JC Celebrations!

Congratulations to Coach Deline-- UNA Hall of Fame Inductee!

In case you missed this amazing message from Mrs. Malone's Teaching & Learning Students and some of our JCHS DD students on Down Syndrome Awareness Day:  

Afternoon tutoring has now expanded to include both Math & Science. The math department and members of the Math Honor Society have joined in making this support available. Bus transportation is also being provided. Be sure you students know about this opportunity for help! Thanks to all who are giving their time for this worthy cause.

Partnership Caught in Action...

JC's Honors English 12 classes have been studying the Canterbury Tales and recently had the opportunity to Skype with Auburn professor, Dr. Bertolet who is an expert. Dr. Bertolet shared information with our students as well as speaking some Middle English for them. He was one of Mrs. Herndon's former professors at Auburn--what a great way to bring in outside resources and help form partnerships for our students!
