JCHS Instructional News
News & Celebrations from James Clemens High School
August 17, 2014
Last week was a great week! Thank you to everyone for engaging in dialogue about our JCHS indicator for the year during Flight School. Some of the suggested strategies were to have students help in creating a rubric, sharing exemplars, and discussing expectations. We hope that flight school was one example of that suggestion in action. We delved into the possible "look-fors" in the instructional core (teacher, student, content), and the examples created in each Flight School session can be seen in the photos below. If you missed your session, the make-up time is listed below for you.
THANK YOU to everyone who pitched in for Dr. Knight's visit on Friday. It was a huge success, and Dr. Knight mentioned more than once during his visit things he has read or seen coming from our school... WOW! #proudtobeajet!! The JETS are known far and wide. Keep tweeting the great things happening around JC--obviously more people than we know of are checking us out!
I'll be in and out of classrooms all week. Email, text, or tweet at me to share the cool things happening in your classes if there are specific times you would like a visit! Have an amazing week!

"Engages learners in developing and monitoring goals for their own learning and Behavior"
The photos below are a few examples of the possible look-fors generated in last week's Flight School sessions for the Beginning-Applying levels of 2.5.
Caught in Action!
Check out this strategy used by Mr. Anderson to engage students in ownership of the learning. He combines video, twitter, and a Google form to engage students in self-assessment, peer-assessment, and reflection. First, he videotaped the students in action (video of August 14 rehearsal below)... **VIDEO LINK REMOVED based on student deadline. Watch @SuperKAnderson 's twitter feed for additional inspiration! :)
Next, he tweeted out the rehearsal video along with a google form for the students to use as an assessment/reflection of both their individual and group performance. Check out the feedback form used here: http://goo.gl/aPJBAF
Something to think about:
How might this strategy transfer or be adapted for your classes?
