About Jerome Stanley
W. Jerome Stanley holds over two decades of experience practicing sports law in Los Angeles. His current practice, Stanley & Associates, represents top athletes in the NFL, the NBA, and the WNBA. W. Jerome Stanley is recognized as the first African American sports agent to represent the number one draft pick for the NFL. Notable contracts negotiated by W. Jerome Stanley include the $85 million contract of NBA all-star Baron Davis. Over the course of his career as a sports agent, W. Jerome Stanley has negotiated sports contracts amounting to over $500 million. Ensuring that his clients receive superior representation, W. Jerome Stanley maintains a full public relations department at Stanley & Associates. Stanley’s current work in the field of sports law also includes serving as President and Chief Executive Officer of the sports management firm, SAFE Sports Management, which delivers expert career management services in addition to contract negotiation services.
Born and raised in South Los Angeles, W. Jerome Stanley completed his undergraduate degree and his Juris Doctor from the University of Southern California. Stanley gained early legal experience while serving as a clerk under Judge Terry J. Hatter of the United State District Court. Prior to founding Stanley & Associates, he worked at Management Plus Entertainment in Los Angeles.
Beyond his career as an attorney and sports agent, W. Jerome Stanley holds diverse experience as a civic servant and a leader in his community. Currently, he contributes to the management of the Los Angeles Board of Recreation and Parks as Commissioner. Previously, he was elected to serve as Vice President of the Los Angeles Board of Airport Commissioners. Earlier in his career, he gained civic leadership experience as a member of the Los Angeles Convention Center Commission.
BESLA Recognizes Cheryl Boone Isaacs
- President of Stanley & Associates, Jerome Stanley has been representing NBA and NFL athletes since 1989. In addition to his career, W. Jerome Stanley is involved in a number of professional organizations, including the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association.
The Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association (BESLA) is an organization dedicated to advancing the success of lawyers and professionals in entertainment, sports, and related fields. By providing education, scholarships, effective networking leads, and resources for employers, the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association works to create a more diversified group of professionals in the entertainment and sports industry.
In August 2013 the Black Entertainment and Sports Lawyers Association held a regional event in Los Angeles at which they recognized Cheryl Boone Isaacs, the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. The event began with a panel that addressed issues in the State of Black Hollywood, followed by a networking reception. Over 150 law and entertainment industry professionals attended the regional event. A portion of the proceeds from each BESLA event supports the scholarship initiatives funded by the organization.
