About the Muslim Empire
The Muslim Empire was spread by the origins; out of Mecca, East to India, West across North Afric, and on into Spain. It grew by spreading to Islam and to other people, - Military conquest took about 100 years to expand most of their empire. They were great fighters, is they died in battle, they would believe to go up into Heaven. Also they treasted conquered people fairly -- Better then previous rulers, and they traded as well.
They had "Battle of the Tours" (732 A.D) in the southern France. The French Christians, under Charles Martel, defeated the Muslims and stopped their advance into Europe.
The Golden Age (700-900 A.D) - A time of great learning and cultural diffusion.
The contributions to our socitey from them would be Mathematics: Spread gupta math ideas. Created Algebra and Trigonometry. Medicine: Created hospitals. Wrote medical textbooks. Doctors required to pass exams to practice medicine. Architecture: Influenced by Byzantine and Indian styles. Preservers of Greek and Roman culture: Preserved Roman and Greek ideas that they got from their contacts with the Byzantine Empire. Preserved Empire. They improved upon them. (i.e. translated Roman writings, etc.) Astronomy: Learned from Greek ideas. Study of the stars; created astronomical tables. Islamic Law: Based on Islamic religous laws in the Qur'an. Became the basis for political laws in the empire. Banking: Used money. Allowed credit. (money borrowing) to be used.
