Muskoka is a significant place of magnificence in St. Lawrence that should not go unseen while you're in St. Lawrence. The great thing about Muskoka is that there's always something to do regardless of the climate or season, making it an ideal place for tourists letting them know they can come any time of the year. This is what makes Muskoka both a local hangout and a major tourist attraction.

RECREATIONAL ACTIVITIES TO DO IN MUSKOKA:

There are many things to do in Muskoka,they can be even more entertaining depending upon the time of the year. First off, you can rent a cottage because you're going to need to stay somewhere before you can explore all of area within Muskoka, since there's so much to explore and do, it can't be explored in one day and can become tiring, and even then, you can enjoy the beauty that is Muskoka. First off, Muskoka can vary in activities because of the different seasons, meaning that there's always something new and different to try out and do, especially in the summer-time, where you can enjoy activities like swimming, diving, boating, canoeing, horse-riding, zip-lining, fishing, and many more. Winter-time activities vary a lot more than summer-time activities and are nonetheless as entertaining. Winter-time activities include: sledding, skiing, snowmobiling, snowboarding and many more out there to try and explore, because Muskoka has lots to offer even if the weather isn't to your preference, you can still enjoy some of the best activities in some of the best places.

CLIMATE:

St. Lawrence Lowland has a very humid, continental climate, bringing very hot summers and very cold winters. During the winter, the great lakes tend to raise in temperature because of the heat stored in the lakes. In the summer, the Great Lakes tend to decrease the temperature as well. The climate is right almost all the time for Muskoka, never incredibly hot or cold, meaning you can enjoy your time being there without worrying about the climate being extreme.

LANDSCAPE/TOPOGRAPHY:

St. Lawrence Lowlands have a rolling hills landscape, meaning that there are many slopes and little hills. This landscape had been shaped out by the glaciers in the Ice Age, making the beautiful landscape that is Muskoka today. This place gets even better when the landscape is also ideal for playing golf, knowing that you can enjoy the beautiful landscape and also enjoy it by have a good time in a game of golf makes the experience much more enjoyable.

VEGETATION:

Due to the climate being moderate, it's optimal growing season. There are two margins in the St. Lawrence Lowlands region that are composed of coniferous and deciduous woodlands, these woodlands spark vividly every year during fall. In the northern margin, the species of tree that are inhabitant to the boreal forest. These species include: black spruce, white spruce, white pine, jack pine, and oak. These make up a large portion of the general natural area itself. In the southern margin that have species common to the deciduous forests are basswood, white elm, elm, maple, red maple, yellow birch.

WILDLIFE:

This region is also a transition for animals and wildlife. Wildlife common to the boreal forests like Lynx, Snowshoe Hare, Snowy Owl(and many other species of Owl), Moose, Flying Squirrel, the Timber Wolf, Fox and many more. The connection between the wildlife can change the experience of being at Muskoka completely, enjoying the wildlife up front in their natural habitats.

GEOLOGY:

In the St. Lawrence Lowlands, the land composition is made up of gleysol, sand and gravel. The bedrock in this land is made of sedimentary rocks, and the dominating rock type in this region is sedimentary. Sedimentary rock examples: shale, sandstone, limestone and more.

NATURAL DISASTER RISK AND FUTURE CLIMATE CHANGE IMPACT:

Earthquakes:

Earthquakes are a cause of stress buildup in the plate movement by geological imperfections or volcanic activity. They can strike suddenly without warning, and that St. Lawrence region is also an area most at risk of earthquakes.

Landslides:

Hundreds to thousands of landslides happen every year in Canada. A landslide is caused by the downward motion of the rock(s) or loose placement and can be triggered by human activities or natural processes. Landslides can range from slow to incredibly fast from speed. The St. Lawrence region is also a common area for landslides to occur.

Thunderstorms:

Thunderstorms can be very short and aggressive. The storm is often accompanied by precipitation. The most common season thunderstorms can strike in are in spring, summer and fall. There are two types of alerts to listen for when a thunderstorm is forming in your area:

  ~  Severe thunderstorm watch: Favourable conditions for severe thunderstorms with intense precipitation, intense lightning or damaging winds.

  ~  Severe thunderstorm warning: Increasing thunderstorm is producing watch conditions. Tornadoes may also be produced in a severe thunderstorm environment.

Future of the Region's Climate:

Future change on the St. Lawrence region can affect many things like water quality, precipitation, can differ from now. Warmer water temperatures can affect physical, chemical and biological qualities and processes and the taste and odor of the water can increase. The total annual precipitation may increase, but the precipitation during the key months and seasons may decrease, and the intensity of the precipitation events may increase.

In conclusion, Muskoka is a great place for tourism because of it's climate, topography, and the endless amount of activities, and many more environmental and physical attributes that factor it.
