John D Griswold MD
Military Surgeon and Home Restoration Expert
John D. Griswold, MD, practices medicine in Towson, Maryland. A Vietnam-era veteran, John D. Griswold, MD, served in the military three separate times over 30 years. He has worked at a number of prestigious medical institutions, including the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and the Towson University Health Center.
After being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corps as a corporal in 1970, Dr. Griswold attended Creighton University, paying for his education partly through the GI Bill and partly by working at a canning plant. He graduated summa cum laude in 1976 with a bachelor’s degree in biology. He later earned his MD at the University of Minnesota Medical School.
In 1987, he received a commission as a major in the United States Army Medical Corps Reserve. In 1990, he reported for active duty and served in the first Persian Gulf War as a field surgeon. A recipient of the National Defense Ribbon for his service in two wars, Dr. Griswold also returned to the service temporarily after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
Apart from his career, Dr. Griswold takes great interest in bringing life back to old homes. In 2000, an 1840 log cabin that he restored appeared on Home and Garden Television and was seen by an estimated 40 million viewers.
