Journey Through The Ancient Times
This year we visited the ancient times, from Mesopotamia to the middle ages. There was a lot that was learned and lots that is still being learned. Here is a summary of our journey.
Mesopotamia is the land between the Tigris and Euphrates (hence the name Mesopotamia which means land between two rivers). There were five main civilization in Mesopotamia: Sumerians, Akkadians, Babylonians, Assyrians, Chaldeans. They all helped advance civilization today from the laws that Hammurabi made to the Sumerian scribes that created cuneiform.
The Ancient Egyptians were known for their building such as their pyramids and Sphinx. Egyptians even created their own type of writings called Hieroglyphics. When archaeologist first found these writings they didn't understand it but with the help of the Rosetta Stone they were able to read it. Egyptians had leaders called pharaohs, and the pharaohs were at the top of their social chain.
In China there were many different dynasties in their history. Dynasties are families that gain power and pass it down to others in the family when the one with power dies. Some leader claimed a mandate from heaven that they were chosen to lead. Some famous dynasties were the Zhou, Qin and Han.
