Secretary Leon E. Panetta
The Department of Defense is in charge of the military. The Defense Department provides the military force required to protect the United States and prevent war. The Department also manages building and facilities in over 5,000 locations.
2012 Budget: $671 Billion
($553 billion in discretionary budget authority to fund base defense programs and $118 billion to support overseas contingency operations)
If I were in charge of the Department of Defense, I would decrease the budget. Although I believe the security of the nation is very important, I don't think the Department needs a budget of $671 billion dollars. That is a lot of money that can definitely be spent elsewhere.
