Leave it to Beavers

SustainFloyd Film Series Movie October 19

Floyd, Virginia – Moviegoers of all ages will enjoy the one-hour movie, “Leave it to Beavers” this Sunday, October 19th--the second documentary of the 2014 SustainFloyd Fall Film Series at the Floyd Country Store. “Leave it to Beavers”  features extraordinary video of Castor Canadensis, those beguiling engineers of dams, once considered pests but now appreciated for preserving water and restoring native plant and fish habitats. “Leave it to Beavers” will be screened at 6:30 p.m. The doors of the Floyd Country Store will open at 6 p.m. for a Halloween bake sale that will precede the film.

The audience may ask questions afterwards of Tom Davis, Natural Resource Specialist for the National Park Service and of Radford University Biology Professor Jane Cundiff, who has a beaver colony on her Floyd property.

“This is a delightful and informative film,” says Jackie Crenshaw, SustainFloyd Acting Vice President. “We will get to see what scientists and conservationists have been telling us: that beavers are overlooked allies in reversing the effects of climate change and world-wide water shortages.”

“Leave it to Beavers,” which explores the history, near extinction and current comeback of beavers is an Emmy award-winning PBS production.

Everyone is invited. The 2014 Fall Film Series is a fundraiser for SustainFloyd. A donation of $5 is requested for the movie and those attending may buy freshly baked goodies before the film.
