Gale Sayers really made an impact on football. He became the greatest halfback of all time. He was black and grew up in Omaha and grew up to be great. Many people thought he was very brave for rooming with a white man. He led the Bears to a championship and was chosen into the hall of fame. The loss of former roommate, teammate, and friend to cancer made it harder and made him work more.

What was his early life like?

Sayers was born in Wichita, Kansas May 30th 1943. A year later he moved to Omaha, Nebraska. He was the 2nd of 3 sons and his father was a mechanic. He grew up in Omaha and started playing football when he was 8. In high school he starred in track (long jump) and football (half back) for Omaha Central High School. Then when he graduated he had 75 scholarship offers but decided to return home and go to Kansas.
