The Fault in Our Stars
By: John Green

The first thing that I can think of when I hear the words "The Fault in Our Stars", is "Counting Stars"  by OneRepublic. In the song there's a lyric that says:" Everything that kills me makes me feel alive." ,which basically sums up Hazel's whole life.

Characters

Hazel Grace Lancaster

A ordinary girl, who hasn't done anything wrong in her life, but now she has a whole other thing to worry about: Lung Cancer. Having to go into the hospital numerous times and countless hours of support group, but one things is about to change when one guy comes around....

Augustus Waters

A boy that almost has everything planned out all together but he can't do it all because he has one real leg and a prosthetic one. Augustus has a BIG affect on Hazel and he even has her over thinking things sometimes. He has cigarettes, but he's not a bad boy, in fact they actually mean something in life. He's showing Hazel how to have a good time and this guy plans on changing a lot.

Setting

This book takes place in Indianapolis in A LOT of different locations. This book allows us to imagine how it would be like to explore Hazel's house and bed room and that she has a shelve over her bed. In Augustus house he has two video game chairs and over his bed he displays all of his basketball trophy's that don't really have much of a significant meaning anymore.

Plot

Hazel sees Augustus one day when she goes to Support Group because he keeps staring at her and to be honest, it's kinda creepy. Augustus admits that he's afraid of oblivion and Hazel expresses how she feels about his comment and they finally "meet". Agustus almost blows his first impression when he pulls out a cigarette in front of Hazel, but has to explain that it's just a metaphor.Gus then later invites Hazel to his house to watch a movie about he doppelganger Natalie Portman. Hazel admits that there's something about Augustus that she likes and that she wants to get to know this guy a lot better.

Symbolism

Augustus and his cigarette.

He has to have power and control over his life.

Theme

I think that the theme of this story is that love triumphs over struggle and hardship. I think this because Hazel just met Augustus and they both have already fallen in love with each other. There's also the fact that Hazel has almost forgotten all about her cancer until she gets to the point that she realizes that if she falls in love with this guy, there's a possibility of her dying while doing it.

Connections

Text to Movie:This book reminds me of this movie I once saw. In the movie this girl and her family found out that she had cancer and it was so bad that she was just like Hazel; she was reclusive to her family. One day while the girl was in Chemotherapy, the girl meet this boy that's a little bit mysterious and they fall in love. Later on in the movie after the guy got what he wanted from her, he doesn't call back and what the girl doesn't know is that he died.

I think their feelings are way deeper than they seem, they are really getting close and slowly falling in love with eachother.

I think they feel sad that they are only going to have a small amount of time together

I think they fall in love with each other and that they just do not seem to care about anything else apart from each other.
