Macaroni and Cheese

Macaroni and Cheese Ingredients

1 1/2 cubes of butter

1 1/4 quarts milk (whole or 2 %)

Flour - just for paste

1 block regular Velveeta cheese

2 large bags of LARGE elbow macaroni noodles

1 1/2 tubes of Ritz crackers

1 pound sharp cheddar cheese

Step one:  Melt 1 cube of butter in saucepan.  Add flour to make a white paste. Stir continuously and add milk and more flour to make a sauce (see picture below).  Add 1/2 block of Velveeta Cheese (chopped into smaller slices) into the sauce.  Stir consistently so that it does not stick to pan or burn.

Step two:  Boil water (add a pinch pf salt into the water).  Add noodles to boiled water and cook as directed on the package.  Drain pasta into a colander and rinse thoroughly.

Step three: Use large baking pan at least 9" by 13". Pan should be at least 3 inches deep.

Start first layer by adding a layer of noodles.  Add 4 small slices or pats of butter to the top of the noodles (see picture below).  Poor 1/2 of the cheese sauce on top. Add 1/2 of the remaining Velveeta slices and then add 1/2 of the sliced cheddar (see picture below).  Repeat steps to make a second layer but in the second layer do not add additional butter slices. Spread crackers and drizzle with the remaining cheese sauce (see picture below).

Cook at 350 degrees for 45 minutes.  Then wait to feast on your yummy comfort food, just like Grandma makes!
