During Session 1, we learned a few basic principles behind forensics. After that we explored and defined forensic science.We also analyzed a crime scene, and completed a crime scene sketch.
During session 2, we explored the different methods of collecting evidence. Then we learned about the history of fingerprinting and it's use in identifying people. Then we had to lift a fingerprint off of a micro slide.
During session 3, we collected and analyzed data from the Running Well High School vandalism case. Then we learned about the process of DNA fingerprinting.After, we lifted another fingerprint and made a report of our evidence.
During session 4, we reviewed the process of DNA fingerprinting and the completed a DNA extraction. We used distilled water and some other chemicals to extract the DNA. The DNA was a tomato based substance.
During session 5, we defined trace evidence. After that we learned the parts of a microscope. Finally we collected and analyzed trace evidence from the Running Well High School vandalism case.
During session 6, we explored the process of document analysis. Then we completed a chromatography analysis. The process involved three different liquids.
During session 7, we constructed a theory about what happened in the case. After we identified a suspect in the Running Well High School vandalism case. We determined who the criminal was.
Career Associated With Forensic Science
A forensic scientist would be a prime career field for this module. This is because their job is to do forensic science. This module would teach the basics of forensic science. Also it would give some "experience" for the job.
