Mother to Son
The main idea in the poem is that the mother was trying to warned her son that life isn't always so easy and that there will be obstacles but he just has to keep on moving forward.
The characters in the poem is the mom and the son. The mother seems very caring because she cares about her son and doesn't want him to take a wrong path. She also tell him that life isn't "Crystal stairs" and there there will be ''Tacks in it and splinters.''
The conflict in the poem is that the mother went to a hard life and she doesn't want her son to go through the same things that she did.
The resolution in the story is that the mom encourages her son to never turn back and not to go down the wrong path. The mom is telling her son the difference between right and wrong so he could always do his best and never give up and to keep on moving forward.

It also compares how life has "Splinters and boards torn up.''
