New: Screenshot Reader - Allows Users to Read Inaccessible Text
Use with Google Files, Websites, and PDFs!
Walled Lake Consolidated Schools subscribes to Read & Write for Google Chrome. It is available to all staff and students who have Walled Lake Google accounts. Read & Write for Google offers a range of powerful support tools to help students gain confidence with reading, writing, studying and research. Users must be logged into Chrome with a Walled Lake Google account to access all the premium features.
A new tool was just added to the toolbar! It is a screenshot reader. Text that is embedded in images, websites using flash, and other inaccessible formats can be difficult for many to access. Using Read&Write for Google Chrome’s new Screenshot Reader tool, users can simply draw a box around the content they need to read, and enjoy text to speech with highlighting just like on accessible documents and web pages. A few examples of where the Screenshot Reader can be used include:
- Inaccessible PDFs
- Google Slides
- Online books
My guess is that this tool will make a big difference when text-to-speech for BAs and other assessments is needed – especially for pictures, graphs, and charts.See the video below to learn how to use it. The video is less than two minutes in length.
How can I help you?
I am available to support WLCSD teachers as they use technology in their classrooms. Let me know if you would like to work with me for 1:1 coaching, professional development sessions with small groups or staff meetings. I want to work with you! ~Pam
