Exclusive Interview with Claudio

(Before the Ball) Claudio

P: Hello Sir Claudio! How are you?

C: Hi Priscilla. I am doing well.

P: It’s a pleasure to be able to interview you

C: Thank you

P: I have a few questions to ask you and it won’t take up much of your time.

C: Okay

P: So, What is your purpose of visiting Messina?

C: Well, I just got finished fighting a war with my good friends, Don Pedro and Benedick, and Leonato invited us to stay here.

P: Well, I saw how you stared at Hero, the governor’s daughter, and I can certainly tell that you have feelings for her. Would you mind describing those feelings to us?

C: Honestly, I think she is the most beautiful woman I have ever laid eyes on. It would a honor to marry her.

P: Awwwe. That is very sweet. Well, In Act 1, Scene 1, your close friend Benedick says “Only

this commendation I can afford her, that were she other than she is, she were unhandsome, and being no other but as she is, I do not like her.”. Did this statement have any effect on the way you view Hero?

C: No, This quote was simply Benedick’s opinion about Hero. I respect Bendick’s opinions but this one I have to disagree with. How could he have such an opinion about such a gorgeous lady. She is such a jewel.

P: Yes. When you first arrived in Messina, You were greeted by the lovely Beatrice. As you may know, Benedick and Beatrice have a long going conflict between each other. She makes a comment about Benedick’s looks and says “Scratching could not make it worse an ’twere such a face as yours were.”. Do you feel that Beatrice and Benedick truly love each other and make comments such as these in order to hide their feelings?

C: Thats a good question. I think that there is definitely some sort of love connection between the two of them, but I know Benedick despises marriage and anything to do with it so, he would not make a very good suitor.

P: That’s very interesting. Well, I heard from a reliable source that your dear friend Don Pedro was going to pretended to be you in order to charm Hero? Is this true? Also, do you feel as though you owe Don Pedro for doing this?

C: Yes, Don Pedro is going to help me woe Hero. Since Don Pedro is a good friend of mine, I feel that I do not owe him for doing this gesture. I assisted him in war for crying out loud?

P: Do you think Don Pedro will be able to do this?

C: Knowing that Don Pedro is a very wise and charming man, I think he will able to accomplish this.
