The Green Party

What are the key points in the preamble?

The Greens/Green Party USA is the original Green Party organization in the USA. It carries forward the radical vision of the early Greens based on grassroots political and economic democracy, nonviolence, social justice, and ecological sustainability. In order to harmonize society with nature, we must harmonize human with human. Ecology studies the relationships among organisms and their environment. Political ecology brings human institutions and ideologies into this holistic perspective. The Green Party Platform seeks to identify the most crucial problems facing our country and offers ideas for responsible action to solve them.

Platforms for our party:

Our economy should serve us and our planet. Our economy should reflect and respect the diverse, delicate ecosystems of our planet. It is unjust and unsustainable because it is premised on endless economic growth and destruction of nature. Our market economy, by externalizing the environmental and social costs of greenhouse gas emissions, is creating the greatest market failure in history: climate change, and its devastating effects.

The Green Party believes that education should provide everyone of all ages with the knowledge and skills they require to be able to participate fully and contribute to the society in which they live. This is not just academic knowledge, but social skills, life skills, and respect for other people’s rights and lifestyles. Education is a right and an entitlement and should be free at the point of delivery to people of all ages.

Homeland Security

Declare that the U.S. will never threaten or use a nuclear weapon, regardless of size, on a non-nuclear nation. End all research, use, and sale of bio-chemical weapons, and to sign the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty (CTBT). Our pledge to end testing or nuclear or chemical weapons. Wants to stress the fact of nonviolence. Including the end of terrorism, and to begin peace for all nations. Along with this they plan on repealing the 2001 Patriot Act.

Health care is a human right, not a privilege. The Green Party supports a wide range of health care services, not just traditional medicine that too often emphasizes high-tech intervention and surgical techniques. The United States is the only industrialized nation in the world without a national health care system. The current system's high costs and widely recognized failures demand that bold steps be taken. The Green Party supports a universal, comprehensive, national single-payer health insurance program as the only solution to the current disastrous for-profit system.
