4/14/15 Small Town Destroyed by Tornado
The town of Fairdale, Illinois was hit by a huge tornado last Thursday that destroyed about seventeen houses. The tornado was 1/2 mile wide and had winds of about 200 miles per hour, classifying it as a four out of five on the EF scale. This scale measures how big and dangerous a tornado is. Two people were killed and seven were injured. The people who were killed were Geraldine Shultz and Jacqueline Klosa. When talking about the storm, Bruce Rauner, the Illinois governor, said, "Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families impacted. Frankly, we’re very blessed that more people were not hurt; this was a devastating storm." Based on all of the damage that this tornado caused, it is likely that the families in this town will not have an easy time in the near future with their homes destroyed, and many people will be looking for housing.
