Continuity & Change in the united states 1998-2015

Evaluate the extent to which economics, politics, culture, and America's role in the world from 1998-2015 contributed to maintaining continuity as well as fostering change in the United States.

American culture, politics, economics, and America in the world from 1998-2015 has had many changes some were positive and some were negative but it was change. Over the past years the economy itself has had its ups and downs this is because of all the involvement America has had in many wars in the world because which caused america to alter their foreign policy and America is in serious debt. Also Because of numerous conflict within the political office has caused change. Also the Culture itself has Changed from active to non active within these years with all the inventions. Therefore America has fostered much change from 1998-2015.

Neoconservative Think Tank Urges US to Attack Iraq/ Texts- Journal/America in the world/1998

Journal about a letter to President Clinton urging war on Iraq small section specifically about the letter

“The Project for the New American Century (PNAC), an influential neoconservative think tank, publishes a letter to President Clinton urging war against Iraq and the removal of Saddam Hussein because he is a “hazard” to “a significant portion of the world’s supply of oil.” In a foretaste of what eventually happens, the letter calls for the US to go to war alone, attacks the United Nations, and says the US should not be “crippled by a misguided insistence on unanimity in the UN Security Council.” The letter is signed by many who will later lead the 2003 Iraq war…….. Clinton does heavily bomb Iraq in late 1998, but the bombing doesn't last long and its long term effect is the break off of United Nations weapons inspections.”

Historical interpretation

We all now that Clinton was the president before bush who did declare war on Iraq. Around this time America wanted to kick Iraq president Saddam Hussein out of office because he was said to be hazardous to the supply of oil which america deeply always needs.

The purpose of this Journal I would say was to bring a generalization to the fact of foreshadowing war with Iraq. Also to let the public know what is going to with the current situation of the oil crisis because of Saddam Hussein.

This source connects to the theme of America in the world. It connects to this theme because at this time everyone from other countries are all in the oil supply over by Iraq especially America. America was involved economically and still is in Iraq trying to take Saddam Hussein out of office. This has altered the foreign policy because this source was a key role in the beginning of the Iraq war. I would say historians might find this source significant because if there were another war with Iraq the past conflicts could be part of the cause.

Didn't They/ Song/ America in the World theme/ 2001

Song about the horrible 9/11 event

Historical Context

9/11 was an terrorism event that we are still today learning about but hope to find all the answers we need.  There are supposedly many ways that this occurred but many lives were lost and will be remembered. There is even a new museum that was built in remembrance to the love ones lost . This event changed many thing in America in the future.

Intended Audience

The intended Audience is everyone, which is very broad but everyone can see and feel something from this song. The everyone simply includes people from the ones who lost someone to someone who didn't  lose anybody.

This is the america in the world theme because America's foreign policy has changed by increasing airport security. Also American foreign policy has changed by America has become more involved in other countries issues such as Syria deactivating / getting rid of their nuclear weapons and such. America is also very involved in countries because they are watching out for terrorist. Historians might find this source significant because in the future another event such as this could occur.

Netflix, Inc. (NFLX): Still Growing, But Is It All Priced In?/ Visual Materials/ Culture/ 2003

Photograph of Netflix population graph

Historical Context

In the year 2003 Netflix Since first turning a profit in 2003, the company has grown its revenue from about $270 million to almost $4 billion. Netflix is a very popular invention that many people use.

I would say the purpose is to inform The audience of how much Netflix has grown since the year 2003. Also to show the change in culture that is occurring that changed Americans from active people to cant be active people.

This is a change in culture because it causes more people more people to stay at home and do binge watching of certain things. Which creates a more lazy america which lets us know where the future is heading. This changes the original culture of working and being active to staying inside and binge watching Netflix. Historians might find this source significant because in order to get behind why America is the most obese country in the world they need all the factors that can cause obesity and Netflix causing Laziness in Americans surely is one factor.

iPad/ Manuscript & Archival Material- Artifact/ Work, exchange, and technology/ 2010

The invention of the iPad

The first iPad>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Historical Context

The iPad may have been the most widely anticipated Apple device ever. Steve Jobs Famously killed the Newton in 1998, as one of his first acts as interim CEO, and had killed several internal Apple tablet projects over the years. Rumors of a new Apple tablet device persisted much of the next decade. Speculation only increased with the 2007 release of the iPhone, which profoundly demonstrated the capabilities of a touchscreen only device.

Intended Audience

I would say the intended audience is mainly Americans because they are the main ones to use this product. Also Americans because they are the ones who created this item which mainly used in America.

I would say this connect to the theme of work, technology, and exchange theme. I say that because the iPad being invented was a change in technology from phones to a tablet which can practically do the same thing as a phone. Historians might find this source significant as every new invention is created you have to know the history of the past inventions.

Trayvon Martin 911 Call [SHOCKING FULL] Murder Caught on Tape | Killed By George Zimmerman Call # 1/ Recording/ Culture/ 2012

George Zimmerman 911 phone call Recording

Historical Context

The shooting of Trayvon Martin was a bad crime that changed everyone's mind and think about what was happening in the world. There were and still are many viewpoints of what actually happened but only two people know what happened.

I would say the purpose was to show everyone what happen on the phone so they could get a better grasp of the situation.

I would say this this source connects to the theme of culture. I say that Because this specific event changed the culture to a more violent culture which hurts the economy at the end of the day. This specific event was the lead to more hate crimes in the world. Historians might find this source significant because it can possibly help understand with the future hate crimes.

Why Did the Government Shut Down?/ Visual Materials/ Politics and power/ 2013

Video of the government shutdown

Historical context

The government shutdown in 2013 was taken in many different way by people some were effected and some were not. The reason it happened was because the Senate declined to pass the bill with measures to delay the Affordable Care Act. The two legislative houses did not develop a compromise bill by the end of September 30,2013, causing the federal government to shut down due to a lack of appropriated funds at the start of the new 2014 federal fiscal year.

Intended Audience

The intended audience I would say was Americans. I say that because Mainly Americans were effected because it was their government that shutdown. Also Many Americans were the ones who lost all their jobs.

This source connect to the theme of politics and power. I say that because this event due to conflict between the president and senate because the didn't want Obama  care to happen. Also because this conflict caused the shut down of the government which effected many people in america. Historians might find this source significant because when or if this event happens again they can know what caused the last one to see if it is the same problem.

The Selfie Stick Takes Manhattan/ Texts/ Work, exchange, and technology/ 2014

Newspaper article about selfie stick

“The selfie stick is, as the name suggests, an extendable rod to which a smartphone can be affixed for selfies to be snapped from a longer-than-an-arm’s distance. In a culture where technological advances are often used to help humans connect more deeply to their own narcissism, this is an important innovation.”

Historical Context

In this high tech world we live in now the selfie stick was the new thing that everyone said they must have. It came out right the Samsung 5 came out so everyone was already taking selfies and now the can take it far away.

Intended Audience

I would say the intended audience is Americans. I say that because Americans are the main one obsessed with it.

I would say this source is connected to the theme of work, exchange, and technology. I say that because This was new technology invented to suit the needs of Americans as usual. Historians might find this source significant because it is the history of an item.

Historical Context

Rafael Edward "Ted" Cruz is the junior United States Senator from Texas. Elected in 2012 as a Republican, he is the first Hispanic or Cuban American to serve as a U.S. Senator from Texas.

Point of view

Ted Cruz has the point of view of Obama care being bad for America. The crazy thing is that he later on joins Obama care.

This source is connected to the them of politics and power. I say the Because it show  the conflict that was arising between the president and Ted Cruz. Historians might find this source significant because it is the past that may come back up in the future that may cause a problem and they can see why.
