Timothy Isaiah Courtright (Big Jim)
Timothy Isaiah Courtright was born 1848 in Sangamon county,Illinois. Timothy had older sister and one younger brother. At age seventeen he served in the civil war as a member of the seventh Iowa Infantry under Gen. During his Civil War service Timothy won high praise for bravery at Fort Donelson and Vicksburg and acquired the nickname Jim, a mistake for Tim. In 1870 Timothy married Sarah Elizabeth, they had three children together. After the war Timothy tried farming, but farming didn't work out. So Courtright worked as city jailer and in 1876 was elected city marshal by three votes. On February8, 1887 Timothy got into a soot out with Luke Short.
- In late 1875 he was hired as a Deputy City Marshal in Fort Worth.
- In early 1876 he was elected City Marshal of Fort Worth.
- In 1879 he failed to be re-elected as City Marshal.
-He may have spent some time after this defeat as a U.S.
-In 1883 he and an accomplice murdered two men in New Mexico
