McCabe, Eamonn. "From the Archive, 30 July 1994: Photojournalist Kevin Carter Dies." The Guardian. Guardian News, 30 July 2014. Web. 3 June 2015.
He saw his best friend or colleague die right next to him while covering a gun battle in the Thokoza township outside Johannesburg South Africa. His relationship had also ended. He said that if he hadn't been a photographer he would have liked to have been a racing driver. He liked living close to the edge. But he was also drawn to conflict. He was born in 1660 in South Africa. The picture he took was a diseased child, starving being watched by a vulture. He couldn't help him because he transmitted a disease but the bird is looking at it like he's about to eat it. He was watching people starve to death.
