Chapter 12: Highway 66
"Cars pulled up beside the road, engine heads off, tires mended." As seen in the image, as they traveled on the highway many cars were broken down.
A common theme is equality and freedom for all. Above shows anger from a common person.
"In California, they got high wages. I got a handbill here tells about it." A lot of the work that was available in California was fruit picking and pictured above is some fruit trees.
"And 66 goes on over the terrible desert, where the distance shimmers..." Throughout a lot of the travel on Highway 66, there is a rough desert terrain.
"The people in flight from the terror behind—strange things happen to them, some bitterly cruel and some so beautiful that the faith is refired forever." This quote depicts reality. Whether good things or bad things may happen, it is what it is.
