Shel Silverstein was a very successful poet who wrote many famous poems. He was a poet, songwriter, cartoonist, and screenwriter.

Shel wrote many poetry books like "The Giving Tree"  and "A Light in the Attic"Shel said that he never studied the poetry of other people and therefore developed his own quirky style, that was laid back and conversational, and occasionally employing profanity and slang.
