Silicon is the 14th element in the periodic table of the elements it has the mass of  28.0855 the Symbol is  Si its atomic number is 14 and the valence shell is 2-8-4 . silicon is used in everyday life.

Silicon was discovered by Jöns Jacob Berzelius in 1823 in sweden . it was found in heating chips of potassium in a silica container and carefully washing away the residual by-products

Silicon is a hard, relatively inert metalloid and in crystalline form is very brittle with a marked metallic luster.

Silicon occurs mainly in nature as the oxide and as silicates.

The solid form of silicon does not react with oxygen, water and most acids.

Silicon reacts with halogens or dilute alkalis.

Silicon also has the unusual property that (like water) it expands as it freezes.

personal care uses :

Silicon-based materials are used in numerous personal care applications. They provide that silky-smooth feel in hair care products. They also enhance the performance of deodorants, antiperspirants, cosmetics, and skin moisturizers and lotions.

household uses :

Dow Corning silicon-based materials help improve the performance of laundry detergents, fabric softeners, cleaners and solvents, and other household products in your home

Durable sealants, lubricants, protective coatings, and greases help keep cars running smoothly. Coatings for airbag fabrics, car polishes, paints, oil pan gaskets, and spark plug boots and cables also benefit from silicon science
