Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad  

Harriet Tubman was born in Maryland in 1820, and successfully escaped in 1849. Harriet Tubman escaped from slavery, she returned to slave-holding states many times to help other slaves escape. Harriet Tubman use a Underground Railroad to travel nearly 90 miles to Philadelphia. She led hundreds of people to freedom on the Underground Railroad. Tubman made 19 trips to Maryland and helped 300 people to freedom.
