Dan River ash Spill
Duke Energy is liable for the clean up after their coal spill on February 2, 2014 were 39,000 tons of coal Duke had been spilling into the Dan River. Duke has also been eight violations in less then a month. Duke was pumping coal into the Dan River with pumps but shut them off before the inspectors arrived but the Water Keeper Alliance had taken aerial photos, and the State Water Quality's staff had already discovered the water was contaminated as well. All of the fingers are pointing to duke being responsible. Duke violated their wastewater permit. Their work ethics are not being followed and is giving them a bad reputation that could ruin them. Duke has a responsibility for keeping the environment safe.
